When one North Carolina elementary school counselor was reading his book while working out on a stationary bike at his favorite gym, he had a revolutionary idea on how to help students learn lessons more effectively.
Bursting with enthusiasm as he told the principal of Winston-Salem based Ward Elementary, Scott Ertl explained his idea of introducing this simple workout into classrooms. With some convincing, Scott was able to introduce a single stationary bike to the back of a classroom.
With the experiment set up and ready for testing, Scott watched as students frequented the bike during their reading times.
The Read and Ride program is now unofficially in 30 states, and with the monumental support of the program, it may just be seen nationwide soon!
