Bronnie Ware has been around death for years now, and she has learned a lot about it in the process.
After her many experiences as a nurse for a major hospital, Bronnie wrote an article in 2009 called Regrets of Dying. In this article, Bronnie shared a lot of stories and experiences she shared with the patients that came through her hospital.
Working with a lot of patients that were on their death beds, Bronnie noticed two regrets seemed to reoccur amongst these people as they prepared for the end.
Bronnie shared her wisdom with the world in Regrets of Dying, and told the world what they needed to know: there are two things people regret the most before they die.
1. Having the courage to live their life as themselves instead of focusing on being what was expected of them.
“This was the most common regret of all. When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it.” said Bronnie.
2. Having the strength to express their true feelings.
“Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming.” Bronnie explained.
